Critical Educators for Social Justice (CESJ) SIG Call for Proposals, Reviewers, Chairs, and Discussants

The deadline for submitting a proposal to the Critical Educators for Social Justice (CESJ) SIG for the 2006 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting is quickly approaching (12:00 a.m. midnight on August 2, 2005).

If you do not have a copy of the 2006 AERA Call for Proposals, you can find it in the May issue of the AERA Educational Researcher, or download it at www.aera.net. All proposals must be submitted on-line through the AERA open proposal submission process.

To refresh your memory, this year's Annual Meeting theme, Education Research in the Public Interest, "calls for education researchers to meet an even higher professional standard, “the standard of producing research in the public interest."

The theme challenges educational researchers to "look carefully at the ways their work" offers responses to the following questions: "What is the public interest? What role can and do education researchers play in challenging the reform efforts to live up to the standard of working in the public interest? How does and can education research serve the public good?"

The purpose of CESJ SIG is to teach, promote, and implement the principles of critical pedagogy in order to establish an educational movement grounded in the struggle for social and environmental justice, human rights, and economic democracy. Therefore, CESJ SIG is interested in proposals that support these efforts.

Weaving the 2006 Annual Meeting theme together with the CESJ SIG’s focus offers rich opportunities for an array of provocative proposals.

The CERJ SIG uses the same proposal evaluation criterion and follows the same proposal selection procedures that the AERA does, therefore, proposals that are attentive to the guidelines in the Association's Call for Proposals will stand the best chance for acceptance by the SIG.

**IMPORTANT**--Please volunteer to be a proposal reviewer, session chair, or discussant, for our SIG. We need as many competent volunteers as we can get in order to do the best job we can select proposals that will serve our community most effectively. For information about how to volunteer, go to www.aera.net.

Finally, please become a member of CESJ SIG or make sure that your AERA and CESJ SIG group membership/dues are paid to date! For information about how to become a member, go to www.aera.net.
